‘Luka Chuppi’ - the story of this film is based on the sweet hide and seek journey of Kartik Aryan and Kriti Sanon between live in a relationship and marriage. The director of the film tries to make a strong statement against the so-called 'Indian Sankskriti’ in a comical way. However, the film never takes any serious turn as the subject of the film only touches the surface of the problem and never goes too deep.
The film tells us the story of a small town Mathura lad, Guddu (Kartik Aryan) and Lakshmi (Kriti Sanon). In their relationship, Lakshmi plays the role of the dominant partner, and she decides to opt for a live-in relationship before the marriage. This plot sets the pace for a Priyadarshan-brand kind of situational comedy. Guddu is a star reporter of the local cable channel while Lakshmi is an aspiring journalist. Lakshmi's father is the president of ‘Sankskriti Raksha Mancha’ and their group functions as an Anti Romeo Squad in the city of Mathura.
Being from a conservative family, it is not easy for Lakshmi to take a bold decision of a live-in relationship. As expected, Lakshmi's father comes to know about the live-in relationship of his daughter. The USP of the film lies in how the protagonists hold their ground against an idealistic society including their parents.
The first half of the film is excellent. However, the second half could have been much better. The climax is a tad too predictable and things seem to fall in the right place too easily for the protagonists. The idea of the film is interesting; but the story writing by Rohan Shankar did not do complete justice to the film.
The trailer of the film gives us a fair idea about the storyline of the film. However, the director Laxman Utekar did not try to dive deep in the internal problems faced by couples engaged in a live-in relationship. It is quite clear that the makers of this film wanted to create a dish that is palatable for the family audience. Although the film protests against the moral policing and various other social problems in India; it tries to do all that in a subtle manner.
Kartik Aryan did a fabulous job as the lead actor in this film. After his recent film 'Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety’, this young actor had gained several fans, and this film would certainly enhance his fan base. He is much adorable as 'Guddu’ (you can understand this from the reaction of the females in the theatre.). Kriti Sanon is also lively in the role of 'Lakshmi’ (her character in this film is similar to the one she played in the film Bareilly ki Barfi). Being a girl from small town, Kriti Sanon essayed the role of Lakshmi with finesse. The chemistry between the lead pair has been too good in this movie.
The other characters of the film have also tried to deliver their best. Aparshakti Khurrana plays the role of Guddu's friend who helps the couple throughout the movie to sustain their relationship. The character has tried hard to be funny, but there is a clear lack of punch lines in his dialogues. The same goes with the role of ‘Babulal’ played by Pankaj Tripathi. The actor like Pankaj Tripathi who has a huge potential has been completely wasted in this film.
The script demanded him to act over the top for the film. This is certainly a negative point for this film. However, Guddu's mother (Alka Amin) plays a role of a progressive Indian mother, and her character would certainly be loved by the audience.
Despite having several flaws in the screenplay, ‘Luka Chuppi’ has a feel-good factor. The viewers will certainly enjoy the comedy sequences, and the chemistry between the lead pair is also a positive side of this film. There are five remix songs in this movie, and the songs have been used in right places too. The background music is also entertaining. The movie has it's own lovely moments, and the viewers will certainly leave the hall on a happy note.
Verdict: The film has tried to deal with a serious issue in a light-hearted manner, and it is a right kind of film for the family audience. ‘Luka Chuppi’ will face a good competition with the movies like 'Total Dhamaal’, ‘Gully Boy’and ‘Son Chiriya’(released this Friday) at the box office. If you would like to enjoy this weekend with your dear one, ‘Luka Chuppi’ is a must see for you as it is ideally made for the young generation of India.
