Direction and Script Analysis
The writing of the web keeps the audience hooked. Rangan Chakravarty has maintained a subtle way of treatment throughout the web series. At every point of time, the audience will feel that the cops are not superheroes; rather they are just like every other human being made of blood and flesh. The screenplay of the web series raises your excitement which peaks at the climax. The credit should also be given to the director Sayantan Ghosal for executing the whole concept brilliantly on screen. The writer-director combination has delivered its best to keep the web series raw and intriguing.
Performances
The performance of the cast makes this web series interesting. It is tough to handle such a big ensemble cast. The director has managed to extract the best from all of them. Every character has been written with much depth and they are given equal importance in this web series. Kaushik Sen is brilliant as the protagonist Suranjan Sen (AC Homicide, Lal Bazaar). He has been able to portray the emotional side of the character quite well and the audience will be able to relate with it. Gaurav Chakrabarty has also tried his best to portray the character of O.C Shabir Ahmed. Sabyasachi Chakrabarty’s role could have been extended a bit. Dibyendu Bhattacharya is brilliant as the mafia of the port area, Abbas Gazi.
The intensity, with which he has portrayed the negative character, is certainly commendable. Subrat Dutta's natural acting will catch the eyes of the audience. Sauraseni Maitra is a perfect fit in the role of S.I. Meera Dasgupta. Hrishita Bhatt has also played the role of Suranjan Sen’s girlfriend quite well. The comic timing of Anirban Chakrabarty is currently unmatchable in the Bengali film industry. His role will certainly provide the much needed comic relief to the audience throughout the whole web series.
Coming to the performance of the supporting cast, the likes of Vicky Nandy, Ronjini Chakraborty, and Jammy Banerjee have looked promising on-screen.
Technical Details
Editing
The editing of the web series is decent. Few episodes at the end are edited quite well, and the audience will love to see those episodes as they are thrilling. The web series drags a bit at the beginning while introducing and building up the characters. So, the editing could have been slightly better.
Cinematography
It is a commendable job to shoot at real-life locations. It helps the audience to relate more with the web series.
Music and Background Score
The background score is used quite well at the thrilling portions, and it is quite different from the other thriller web series.
Overall Review
The web series 'Lal Bazaar' ends on a cliffhanger. So, it is expected that the makers have their plans to launch the second season and the audience will certainly be waiting for it. 'Lal Bazaar' is a must-watch series for all because of its uniqueness. This web series will certainly remain as one of the best cop
thrillers made to date.
